STORY: It is all about hot headed youngster who takes up nefarious activity to get Rs.3 lakh for the operation of his mother. In the process of narrating this one liner, the sentiments, circumstances leading to such work are grippingly narrated by director Ashok Patil in the second half.

Munna (Kishore) is an angry young man. He wants to get Rs.3 lakhs to remit it to the hospital to save his mother. So he takes up a job of transporting unknown contents in his car to the particular spot. It is from 9 to 12 he has to finish his task.

He has to travel from Ramanagara to Devanahalli Railway junction – roughly around 60 kilometers. He is not supposed to open the dickey. The underworld comes to know about it as the transmitter is fixed and in case he does not reach the spot at 12 in the night, when the train stops at Devanahalli he is finished because a bomb is fixed too. The process of his mother operation begins from 9 to 12. It is only when he delivers the suitcase Rs.3 lakh is remitted in the counter of the hospital. His mother will be out of danger.

The travel in three hours from ‘9 to 12’ is what stressful for Munna. He keeps on informing Durgi (Nivedhita) his fiancé on all the developments but several obstacles put down his courage. The police at check post, eunuch barging inside his car, a police officer stopping his car for a drop, a robber, a pregnant woman all get inside his car – all of them are uninvited guests on his way.

Finally when he reaches the spot Munna finds several suitcases like the one he has are found near the railway station. He receives the major shock of his life. That is an eye opener for him. He fights back. What is there in the suitcase - watch it on screen in the second half.

ANALYSIS: Director Ashok Patil of two Kannada films in the past ‘Joke Falls’ and ‘Shaapa’ has come out with a thriller that is loaded with lot of elements in the second half.

Had he started the film from the start of the Munna’s ambassador car and explained the whole film it would have been very fitting to the title. Before the journey starts the things are not interesting to watch. Like all the directors he consumes the time to fill the length of the film.

Whether mother is important, saving life is important, being clean man in the society is important, the care needed for the child, his love – all roll in the character of lead actor Kishore Kumar.

This ‘9 to 12’ is said to have been made in Hollywood standards. Ashok Patil lives in California, USA and he has applied the mind how Hollywood films are made – a systematic approach. Explaining the story to a group of friends of different age group, explaining the screenplay, then with dialogues in the third round and studying their reactions – all have been followed in this film. Yet the film fails to be completely convincing.

The sentiments are elastic at some places. Even a scene or with a few dialogues the sentiments are understandable. The characterization of Durgi does not jell well, firstly because Nivedhita does not match Kishore Kumar and secondly because she lacks seriousness. The dubbing for Nivedhita is also very bad.

Ashok Patil must have narrated his cinema and got the reactions from the people who do not watch films. For such group of people everything looks fresh and people with no binding should have come to his help for still a taut way of narration.

Where was the need for a song on Bengaluru….no one can imagine Kishore dancing? He is a serious actor. The concept of transporting kids from India to abroad for a price is a serious issue that melts any stony heart!

On the whole Ashok Patil loses the touch of class.

PERFORMANCE: Kishore Kumar as Munna has done well. He has a good role indeed that showcases his emotions convincingly. The close up shots for Kishore Kumar should be carefully planned. BC Patil as usual has not got a convincing role as shoot out cop. BV Radha and Sanketh Kashi are convincing. Nivedhita alias Smitha has nothing much to boast. The child actress in the film is too good.
