STORY :

A remake of ‘16’ – Pathiaaru - Tamil cinema released in February 2011, is a teenage love story in the flashback and responsible love story in the end part but irresponsible love story in the beginning of the film.

The film ‘Jolly Boy’ is just not a love story. What should be standing for making love and how it should be for the younger generation is told in a protracted style by director Sabapathy. Sabapathy directed the Tamil version with the same music director.

Indusri (Rekha) daughter of a rich builder Gopi (Devaraj) falls in love with Ganesh (Diganth) in the college days and she opposes the parents and hell bent situation of Indusri is a big pain for her parents. Inviting Ganesh to the house mother of Indusri (played by Thara) hand over a book called ‘16’ to read.

Jointly Ganesha and Indusri read this book and the lengthy flashback unfolds. It is set in the village background. Indu (Archana) and Gopi (Faisal) in the school age are close friends. Gopi reaching 10th standards proposes to Indu. This is not so easy for Indu to accept as she is opposed by the family members.

When Indu’s father says the cloth you are wearing is given by me when she comes with Gopi to get married in a temple. Indu locks the temple from inside and throws her clothes outside. Hiding behind a statue Indu asks Gopi to get a set of new clothes for her and then tie the nuptial not. Gopi runs around for clothes and on his way he meets with an accident. Gopi not returning makes Indu to accept her father proposal. But on the marriage day also she takes a bold decision.

For Indusri and Ganesh knowing sorrow past the search for Indu and Gopi is the issue. Ganesh finds Indu (Sudharani) in Ooty teaching the orphan students. When Indusri also rushes to this place her father follows. The father of Indusri is none other than Gopi (rich builder).

What happens next? You have to wait for the climax with not interesting screenplay till then.

ANALYSIS :

Director Sabapathy has given Tamil scent to a Kannada cinema. The flash back is huge and it is something not close to Karnataka nativity.

Director Sabapathy is not aware of Kannada sentiments and happenings inside the rural belt of Karnataka. At the young age of 8th to 10th standards the girls behaving in the way the film is show is not found in interiors. The first flaw is showing the teenage love story.

When the school going girl love affair was shown in ‘Kadhal’ and Kannada version ‘Cheluvina Chittara’ there was lot of commotion. Even the banning of films was suggested.

With such knowhow either Diganth or K Manju should have advised the director to keep away from such stuff.

The producer of this film K Manju deceives the audience with two prime things. One with star cast Diganth and Rekha and second one with the title ‘Jolly Boy’.

Both are disappointment for the fans. There is no jolly atmosphere in the film. Secondly this is not the kind of film for either Rekha or Diganth. Both are like guest artists in the film like how supporting artists come and go.

The biggest point that comes for attack is the content. Explaining the ordeals and melting the hearts of the youths the elders in this film make them to mend their ways.

The thick lovers –  Rekha and Ganesh finally say we will study, succeed and then get married. After all – Love can wait must be the principles of this director.

The village portions in the background are stupid to the present day youths. The daring quality of Indu (getting pregnant from Gopi at the age of 16) in the village is something that takes the village youths in the wrong path. It is nothing but the irresponsibility of the film maker and director.
